Geoff and Katie Melkonian opened Breadwinner Café in Sandy Springs in 2010, five years after the two first began making and selling baked goods to order. Though the café came to being through those breads, it has since become known for its lunch menu, which features soups, salads, sandwiches, and, of course, baked goods. Today, Breadwinner Café and Bakery has two locations, and, according to a permit application submitted on behalf of the café, will soon add one more.
Breadwinner Café and Bakery will join other retail and food shops in Chattahoochee’s The Works, suggests permit intel obtained by What Now Atlanta. The café will operate out of Suite 130 at 1235 Chattahoochee Avenue.
The Works is Atlanta’s new 80-acre mixed-use development. “The Works’ vision includes distinctive retail and dining, imaginative experiences and inspired gathering areas in an interconnected environment preserving the character of Atlanta’s historic industrial buildings,” shares the development’s website. “The multi-phased masterplan comprises 350,000 square feet of retail and entertainment, 500,000 square feet of office space, 500 residences, 200 hotel rooms and 13 acres of greenspace.” Chattahoochee Food Works will have 31 vendors and span 25,000 square feet when all is said and done.
We were unable to reach the owners of Breadwinner at the time of publication, however, Chattahoochee Food Works is open and operating, so the new stall could debut soon.
So until Breadwinner’s newest location opens its doors, you should head on over to one of the existing spots and help yourself to any of the lunch items. You won’t want to leave without the bread, which is sold in varieties like peach, lemon, mocha chocolate, and pumpkin, by the slice or by the loaf.
